Aquatic Indicators Forage Division

Aquatic Indicators Forage Division was established in 1990 to provide quality organisms to marine aquarists and oceanariums.  This division supplies live mysid shrimp as food for Sea Dragons, Sea Horses, Cuttlefish, and many other captive fish.  Unlike Artemia, Mysid shrimp are a natural food for marine species and highly attractive to the predatory nature of even the most finicky of carnivorous fish.  Our forage organisms are used by a nationwide clientele including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Georgia Aquarium, Epcot-Living Seas, Ripley's Aquariums, Columbia University, SeaLife Aquariums and many others.

Mysidopsis bahia

(also known as Opossum shrimp)

The forage division of Aquatic Indicators supplies live mysid shrimp as an extremely nutritious and stimulating food for Sea Dragons, Sea Horses, Cuttlefish and many other marine pets.  Unlike Artemia, mysid shrimp are a naturally occurring food for many marine species and highly attractive to the predatory nature of even the most finicky carnivorous fish and those making the transition from one home to the next.  Our mysid shrimp are primarily of the species Mysidopsis bahia, but may vary depending on season. Our collectors capture the mysid shrimp in the remote coastal waters of Florida’s estuaries and barrier islands.  The shrimp are carefully transported to our laboratory facilities in St. Augustine for observation and stabilization.  They are then shipped within 36 hours of capture to insure their nutritional integrity.  Throughout this process, great care is given to these shrimp to ensure that your Sea Dragons, Sea Horses, or other marine fish get the best meal we can provide.  We ship our shrimp at 20 parts per thousand and they will arrive at your address hungry for small particulate food or live Artemia, in need of a water exchange, and a little TLC.

Palaeomonetes pugio

(also known as grass shrimp)

The forage division of Aquatic Indicators supplies live grass shrimp, also known as the common shore shrimp or ghost shrimp, as an extremely nutritious and stimulating live food for marine fish, especially Cuttlefish, and new fish in transition from one home to the next.  These shrimp are primarily of the species Palaeomonetes pugio and are shipped at 20 parts per thousand, but easily acclimate to a wide range of salinities. These shrimp are easy to feed and care for, readily accepting a variety of flake and particulate foods.

Rotifers

The forage division of Aquatic Indicators supplies live rotifers as an extremely nutritious and integral food for some larval fish production and coral reef organisms.  These rotifers are Brachionus plicatilis and are enriched just before shipping to ensure a high nutritional value and health upon arrival at your address.
